As a society we are told that this is the most wonderful time of the year. This began when everyone would celebrate Christmas and the focus was on religion and the rebirth of the year, after you gave blessings and remembrance to Christ (hence the name Christmas). Fast forward and most people now wonder how we can possibly call the darkest month, with the tax bills due, the heating bills increasing and pressure to spend too much on presents, and eat too many treats (so we then do not feel too wonderful), and basically we become overstressed and overtired, a wonderful time of the year?
Despite it all it is still my favorite time of the year! This is the time that people smile at strangers, say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, give their time or money to those less fortunate, play uplifting music and display beautiful lights and decorations. It has always been a time of hope for me for humankind. If we can be pleasant and tolerant of others during December, why can’t we at other times?
If you find that you need a little extra help, a smile or a hug, let me know. We, at the Danbury Country Store will try to help you. That is what a small town is supposed to be about. Helping our neighbors, pointing them in the right direction, getting people together who can help one another or giving a hand when we can. There is always a time in our lives when we all need a little extra, monetarily, emotionally or physically. And the beauty of being part of a community is that when we need the extra hand most people pass it on later to someone else. Let’s make every day a wonderful time of the year!
Merry Christmas!
Happy Hanukkah!
And may you all be blessed today, tomorrow and into the new year!
