It's the Most Wonderful Time of The Year

As a society we are told that this is the most wonderful time of the year. This began when everyone would celebrate Christmas, and the phrase has stuck even as our celebrations have diversified.

But December can be paradoxical. It's the darkest month — the shortest days and longest nights. For many, it's a time of financial stress, loneliness, or grief. The pressure to be merry can make things harder for those who are struggling.

Yet there is something about this time of year that brings out the best in people. Acts of kindness increase. Communities rally around those in need. People slow down just enough to remember what matters: connection, generosity, and hope.

At the store, December is our favorite month. We see neighbors buying gifts for each other, families picking out treats for holiday gatherings, and strangers striking up conversations by the register. It reminds us why we do what we do.

Whatever December means to you — whether it's the most wonderful time or a difficult one — know that you're welcome here. Come in for a warm drink, a friendly face, and maybe a little bit of that holiday spirit.
